Sophia Capo
President
Dr. Sophia Capo is passionate about optimizing visual function. She is a Residency-Trained Optometrist. This means she completed an additional year of specialized training in pediatrics and vision rehabilitation.She completed her Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo and then her residency at the Michigan College of Optometry. Following her residency, she was awarded the Terrance Ingraham Award for Excellence in Pediatric Optometry.Her dedication to evidence-based pediatric and rehabilitative optometry led her to complete her Fellowship with the American Academy of Optometry. Dr. Capo has also completed additional education courses, regularly conducts research, and has lectured internationally.She was born and raised in Vaughan, Ontario, but she currently loves calling Kelowna her new home. You’ll find her hiking or skiing in the mountains when she’s not in the office.
Samuel Biggs
Vice President
As vice president of We See BC Foundation, Sam is passionate about helping individuals gain access to eye care services. During his childhood, reading didn’t come easy so he wants other children to receive support to allow them to be successful. Originally from Calgary Alberta, Sam has lived in the Okanagan for over a decade. After completing a Kinesiology degree from the University of British Columbia he worked with hockey players as a strength and conditioning coach. Shortly after, he trained as a Pedorthist from Western University and now practices in Kelowna BC. He has had the privilege to help a diverse range of individuals manage their foot and ankle pain. His expertise in gait analysis, orthotic design and orthotic fabrication has helped his patients manage their pain. In his free time, he thrives being outdoors, whether skiing, cycling, or hiking, he has the belief that a connection to nature enriches our lives.
Miranda Wardman
Secretary
Miranda Wardman is a lawyer with Pushor Mitchell LLP practicing civil litigation and administrative law. Miranda is originally from Salmon Arm, BC, and is happy to have returned to BC’s warmer weather after spending time in Saskatchewan and Ontario for university. Outside of the office, Miranda enjoys playing recreational sports, snowboarding, riding horses, trying new foods, and spending time with her two pugs, Olive and Fig. As a long time, glasses wearer, Miranda felt she was uniquely qualified to sit on the WeSee Board and to assist with filling the gaps in BC for children in need of optometry services.
Sue Capo
Treasurer
Sue graduated from University of Toronto with a commerce degree in 1988 and worked in banking for many years before switching careers to become a teacher in 2006. Her experience makes her suitable to be involved in the financial aspects of WE SEE BC but also shows her passion for working with children. She has witnessed first hand the importance of eye health for young students and its contribution to ensuring children achieve their greatest potential. When not in the classroom, Sue enjoys baking, gardening, fitness and nutrition and travelling.
